Why is International Family Day celebrated?
You will be surprised to know the historical origins of this event. The GFD has its roots in the division of the Soviet Union into several constituent states, most notably modern Russia. This division ended the Cold War and became an important yardstick in the fight for world peace.
In 1997, the United Nations General Assembly launched the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World.
