I love a good creamy, savory vegan gravy recipe. Some people worry they can never enjoy this luscious sauce on a vegan diet, but I like to say, au contraire! You can make the best ever vegan gravy recipe using the same basics as you do for all gravy making: milk or cream (plant-based in this case) + flour for thickening + fat (olive oil) + flavor (onion, garlic, soy sauce, and black pepper). In this recipe, I’m making a vegan Onion Gravy recipe, showcasing the caramelized flavors of red onions in a sauce. You can easily whip up this delicious, 7-ingredient, healthy, vegan onion gravy recipe in about 20 minutes, which you can serve with entrees like this Savory Loaf or Vegan Meatballs, as well as baked or mashed potatoes, and dressings. Make it gluten-free by swapping out flour for cornstarch and using gluten-free soy sauce.

Description

Make the best ever onion gravy recipe with this Vegan Gravy with Onions, which is easy, healthy, delicious, and absolutely fabulous served with your favorite entrees and sides.



Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a sauté pan and add onion and garlic, sautéing for 9 minutes.
  2. Whip together the plant-based milk, flour, black pepper, and soy sauce with a whisk in a small bowl, until smooth with no lumps.
  3. Pour mixture into pan with onions and garlic, and cook, stirring frequently, for about 8 minutes, until bubbly and thick.
  4. Makes about 2 ½ cups of gravy (5 tablespoons per portion).
