Few things make me feel as energized as fire season. Cold autumn nights carry a strong nostalgia: Football GamesAnd the holidaysAnd the the huntAnd the good foodAnd the warm clothes. Growing up in Wisconsin means friends and family often gather around a crackling fire on the weekends to roast s’mores and doughboys (The treatment is superior, believe me). A lot has changed since then, but in terms of fire pit technology, that’s not a bad thing at all.
What is a smokeless fire pit
One of the drawbacks of campfire nights was the smoky smell on all of your clothes the next day. Or constantly turn your seat around the fire to avoid the rising smoke. Smokeless fire pits (mostly) solve these problems.
If you burn wood, there is a will Always some smoke Due to the evaporation of components such as water and hydrocarbons inside the wood. But smokeless pits aim to eliminate as much smoke as possible by re-flaring this primary product. There are various ways to achieve this low smoke effect, but most smokeless fire pits use a double-walled design with carefully placed air vents. The holes create a hot upward flow of oxygen that burns the particles that normally make up smoke.
Why don’t you smoke
At first I was skeptical not to smoke. Although the idea sounded great, the high cost and the fact that there was no real problem with a regular fire pit made me feel like they weren’t worth it. But I’m old enough to admit I was wrong: Now I love smokeless fire pits and will scream from rooftops to skip any cheaper traditional patio option.
Smokeless fire pits burn clean, hot and fast. Usually, little of the smoke produced will move straight up due to the recycling design. Some people complain that the double wall generates less radiant heat than traditional fires. I’ve found that this isn’t a problem because I can sit close to a smokeless fire pit (and thus get more heat) without getting smoked in my face.
The only real drawback I had is that I go through firewood more quickly with smokeless fire pits. But it is quite worth it: instead of smoking and burning the log in the corner, each log is burned in a fire, even coals, It is great for cooking.
