Here’s a recap of the last few weeks of summer!
Birch started school yesterday!
He went to the same class and teacher as last year, so the transition went well! He was excited to see his friends. (And I lost a very important friend – you know who you are <3)
Flowers from Nona Garden!!
Each child is asked to bring a cut plant or flower on the first day.

Birch is so proud that he’s now a big boy!

I’ve got those end of summer blues
But before school starts, here are some snapshots of our last few weeks of summer, aka dog days in August!
It’s always bittersweet when summer is over. Autumn is my favorite season, but summer is the second so close, so we’re still a little sad. I can’t stand to think ahead about the weather in February. Sometimes I make myself remember that when I sweat.
Big Boy Lunch at Brazos
While Birch was still at camp but Mazen was at home, we had lunch together at Brazos before heading back to sports school and school shopping. We both agree: they have the best cheese sauce ever!!
Triple Pickle + This Is My Yam is a favourite. Surprisingly both are vegan tacos!
Water balloon battle!
On the hottest day. Here it is the parachute!
We watched the fight from the balcony in the shade 🙂
Mom and me time
Once Mazen returns to school, Birch and I spend about 10 days a day. I’m tired, haha.
We did some lessons at home about the USA.
outing with dad
Thomas took him to Sugar Hollow for a walk!
water spray
We cleaned the leaves from the water level and broke them for the afternoon. This might be the last time we’ll use it because Birch enjoyed cleaning it way more than he was standing by! Let me know if you are a local who would like to.
Splash Park
Continuing the water theme, we went to the pool a few times and to the splash park! Birch is no longer afraid of the flow of water – it’s something new to him!
cicada hunting
We discovered a lot of cicada shells on the trees in our yard. Collected by Birch.
And then, in the manner of a young boy, he immediately crushed them all into the corridor…
We found one alive on the garage wall! B has learned to say “I love the sound of cicadas” since I say it all the time.
Play Play Play
We played with slime…

with friends…

And their cats!
Back to school haircut
Are you even a kid if you don’t get one!?
workouts
I did a few peloton exercises. Birch loved it when I took my Disney cruises! (And he was furious when they played Disney songs he didn’t know.)
We’ve also played a lot of Aladdin and went up and down the stairs a few times to pretend we’re in the Cave of Wonders.
There were also some walks! And I went to some gym classes here and there.
date nights
Thomas and I spent two nights dating to balance all faith.
Red Pump Kitchen
The first was for Red Pump Kitchen to celebrate his friend John’s birthday! Our friend Anna also joined in and we had a delicious 4 course meal that made us feel very much like an adult 🙂
The Wood Brothers + Greensky Bluegrass
It was the night of our second date to a concert. We started the night with Margus at the Zocalo and finished with a laser light show!
