According to research from European Journal of NutritionLow level of vitamin C in your body (i.e. blood) is ‘associated with low level of mental vitality’ in young adults between the ages of 20 and 39. What exactly does “mental vitality” mean? In this study, they point to a few different factors: work motivation, attentional focus, and general cognitive performance on tasks that require sustained attention.
In this double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, the researchers concluded that, “Compared with placebo, vitamin C supplementation significantly increased attention and work absorption with a demonstrated tendency to improve fatigue and overall work participation.” * Young people got a daily vitamin. A dose C of 1,000 mg over four weeks to achieve these impressive gains.
More specifically, participants taking a daily vitamin C supplement performed better on the colored word test, indicating longer attention capacity and higher processing speed than their counterparts who did not take 1,000 mg of vitamin C. *
