The same bunch of NFL quarterbacks have dominate the league over the past two decades. Most of them are now retired — Peyton Manning, Drew Bryce, and Ben Roethlisberger are among the most prominent examples — and a new generation of signal callers has managed rose to power. However, a few older people still tossed it in. It was never exactly Aaron Rodgers fade away, but he’s better than ever in his mid-thirties with two straight wins. Tom Brady is 45 years old and increasingly delusional about being an old man, but he still throws darts at the Tampa Bay Pirates.
Despite those outliers, for the most part it is the stature of a young man. Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are the latest non-Rodgers Player of the Year award winners. Justin Herbert and Josh Allen are two bona fide stars. Kyler Murray has solidified himself as one of the top QBs in the league, despite extending his contract with the Arizona Cardinals Circus has become strange. And a handful of other midfielders have a chance of making their own leaps to the top levels in 2022.
Here are six QBs, ranked personally by their chances of having a major breakthrough season. This list is a mix of beginners and other young passersby. Anyone who has already made a Pro Bowl roster is not eligible for “hack” considerations. These are the rules!
