Spa day is funky
When we were in high school, my mom and her friend went to a fancy spa overnight. She came home raving about it and said she’d take us if one of her comic books made it big.
She’s had several bestsellers in her career, but none of them have made millions. Now she has turned to art (She has sold over 400 paintings.)
I just turned 40 and we haven’t had a girls spa trip yet!
Although this summary is not about a 4 night spa stay, we did do a mini version which was perfect in Ferrington Village in North Carolina.
The trip that wasn’t nearly
We brainstormed a million birthday trip options and had the hardest time finding a weekend getaway, venue, and reasonable price. We finally settled in the days between my sister’s birthday (October 18th) and mine (October 26th) and had reservations…..then my mom got the virus!
So this weekend was our second attempt.
It worked out really well because we got the rooms we wanted in Fearrington on a Friday night so we could stay and savor dinner too.
Thursday dinner at Colonial Inn
I drove by Thursday after lunch and had a special dinner with my mom and dad (who just got back from his month in Nepal!)
Known for its southern cuisine, we used to go to Colonial Inn When my grandparents fell 30 years ago. She has many good memories!
After a long layover on the property where it sat empty, it’s now a bed and breakfast (Thomas and I want to drop the kids off at Mom and Dad’s and book a stay!) and a restaurant.
I had an Orange County cocktail (bourbon + orange)
and Carolina catfish with collard greens and creamy corn. My mom got a “Hillsburger” haha!!
The last time I was in Hillsborough I had the best cup of coffee Cobb-A-Joe So I went there for more! I again had the best cup, plus morning glory cake for breakfast. And I printed it in the first half of the post.
Spa trip to Fearrington Village
ferrington is a historic farmhouse located just south of Chapel Hill, designed to feel like an English-style village. On the property are a formal and informal restaurant, boutiques, a luxury inn, and a spa.
We headed straight to the spa to get our 11:30 body masks!
Body moisturizing mask + massage
I had the most amazing mask on (shout out to Megan!) in my favorite scent ever: Monoi flower. It’s the same scent that I’m obsessed with This is a Beautycounter body kitSo I knew I would love it!
The velvety texture of Monoi Oil delivers superior hydration, quenching thirsty skin. They stay cocooned and cozy while the mood-balancing essential oils and skin-conditioning oils do their work.
Lunch at The Belted Goat
tied goat It has soups, salads, and sandwiches and was perfect after a spa morning.
I had a warm Brussels sprouts salad with chicken, squash, and dates. Tasty!
After lunch we went to check into our rooms.
My mom and Laura shared one room and they treated me to my own room! The rooms were great, especially the bathrooms.
My sister ordered a special chocolate truffle waiting for me!
walking on the floor
After settling in, we took a walk around the property visiting the cows and seeing the gardens.
Dinner at Fearrington House Restaurant
We walked to Ferrington House Restaurant For pre-dinner cocktails and dinner.
The dinner itself was amazing – one of the best I’ve ever had! We did the three course tasting menu, and there were surprises from the chef sprinkled throughout.
All flavors, presentation and service were great. I highly recommend!
I had halibut with butternut squash and kale
Dessert of course…!
My pumpkin cake with pumpkin ice cream, meringue and marshmallows was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had!
After marrying the girl from our rooms, she fell into my king size bed <3
Breakfast was served the next morning in Fearrington House’s restaurant and was included in our stay. We had mouthfuls of juices, croissants and appetizers.
I tried the cut oatmeal with lemon, yogurt, and berries and loved it.
When we originally booked our treatments, they had to put the facials in for the next morning due to the schedule. Actually it was nice to go Back Back to the spa again!
I had an amazing facial with Megan
If you’re in the Chapel Hill area, I highly recommend visiting Fearrington Village for the spa, dinner, or overnight. We can’t wait to go back!
