My friend Eileen and I spent two nights at a river cottage in North, Virginia. Here is the summary of our relaxing stay!
riverside cottage
My friend Elaine booked This Airbnb is so charming In eastern Virginia for four nights. She invited me to join as many as I could escape, so I spent the last Thursday and Friday with her enjoying the quiet serenity by the water.
The home is located in North, Virginia, approximately 15 minutes from Matthews and 20 minutes from Gloucester. It was second to the water with access to a beautiful pier.
The house was very nice!
I took a lot of mental notes about the cute decor.
Well equipped with canoes, bikes, outdoor shower, hammock, Adirondack chairs and outdoor tableand more.
It had two bedrooms, side by side, and one bathroom. Perfect for two friends or a small family!
The duvet cover was very soft and had a zip closure, which is a new requirement for comforters because of the cleaner line it makes. I checked the card and the duvet was next to me Cotton Kitchen And 100% Egyptian Cotton. Great price too! I think I will get one…
the view:
Chef’s Salads
For lunch, we had the chef’s salads. Tasty!
Paddle boarding and kayaks
Eileen loves all things outdoors and I brought her a paddleboard. I tested it with wobbly legs. I have the worst balance.
We also went kayaking. The kayak had quite a few spider webs, and I wasn’t sure if we should go. My fear was that a spider would crawl out while I was on the water and I would be trapped!
It happened! Ahhhh. Here we are full of adrenaline. I almost jumped into the river!
Dinner at White Dog Bistro
We took showers and had a nice dinner in downtown Matthews in The White Dog Bistro.
The restaurant has won many awards, and I can vouch that all of them were well deserved. we had unbelievable a meal!
Amuse-buche: watermelon and feta cheese
Amazing crab hushpuppies and locusts
Warm bacon and maple salad with goat cheese and pecan herbs
Scallops from pineapple in a puree blanc vanilla for me
Surf + Turf for Elaine
Pecan pie with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel sauce
tidal floods
When we got back, we realized the water level had gone up a bit! Apparently they have tidal floods. It was scary to see where we stood earlier covered in water.
We watched “This Is 40” to relax. Very appropriate!
Friday
On a Friday morning we had a leisurely coffee and breakfast – bread from home and the best cantaloupe ever.
Bicycle paths
The neighborhood had plenty of sand bike pools to explore. We went on a 45 minute tour of everywhere.
walking power
Then I went for a vigorous walk and Elaine when kayaking! (I was still recovering from the spider incident so I stayed on land.)
Chef’s Salad Round 2
This time we added half a glass of wine…… and then more!!
Cold afternoon
Reading + great views by the water. The weather was really excellent!
Dinner at Hole in the Wall
For dinner we drove to Gwen Island to eat at hole in the wall.
It was on the casual side, and we got first place at the picnic table on the deck.
Oysters on a Half Shell!
Hushpuppies
Blackkind Flounder, Brussels, Cottage Potatoes
The fries were out of this world – pimento style! We loved the food. Eileen has cracked the flounder tacos.
sunset
Our cottage faces east, so we made sure we got home early enough to enjoy it on the pier.
the end!
