MQ Mental Health Research is pleased to announce that Professor Rory O’Connor, Professor of Health Psychology at the University of Glasgow, has joined the MQ Board of Trustees.
“I am delighted and honored to join the MQ Board of Trustees. I’ve been moved by what MQ has achieved in recent years, and I’m excited to help shape the future of mental health science at this critical time, as we continue to recover from COVID and build the evidence base for what works to protect and advance our mental health.”
Rory leads suicidal behavior research in Glasgow, one of the leading international research groups on suicide/self-harm. He has published extensively in the field of suicide and self-harm, particularly with regard to psychological processes that lead to suicidal behavior and self-harm.
He is also the author/co-editor of several books and the author of When It’s Dark. Why people die by suicide and what we can do to prevent it (2021). He is the co-editor of the Suicide Research Archive and co-editor of the Journal of Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior.
Rory also serves as a consultant to many national and international organizations, including national governments concerned with suicide and self-harm.
Since May, Rory has co-hosted MQ Open Mind Podcasta presentation that blends lived experience and scientific research to help understand mental health conditions.
