As society progresses, some things haven’t changed at all. The wheels are still rolling and the fire is still burning. And humans still pass on their wisdom through written word Hoping to read it for generations to come. These 10 books have worked, by speaking to the part of us that wants to know ourselves more and better. All of them are over 50 years old, some are 2,000 years old. And they are still popular for a reason: because each of them, in its own way, can still change your life.

From 1880: The Art of Getting Money by P.T. Barnum
Schumann Phineas Taylor Barnum – hoax promoter and co-founder of Ringling Bros. Circus. And Barnum & Bailey – he never said, apparently, that there’s a little person born every minute. But he believed in using whatever it took to attract customers to his offerings. Only as long as they left satisfied. And he compiled what he learned into 20 golden rules for making money. Divided into short chapters that you can read one afternoon, it shares the stories of farmers and shoemakers; Those in boarding houses and on steamers.
He advises choosing the proper business (“He cannot succeed unless a man pursues the profession intended for him by his nature and which suits his genius”) and avoiding debt (“Falling into debt for what you eat, drink and wear must be avoided”). That’s when you have a goal, to act on it. “If you hesitate,” Barnum wrote, “the boldest hand will stretch out in front of you and get the prize.”
