How about pouring tequila for dessert? The latest limited edition version of Maestro Dobel It is an extra añejo finished in a sherry barrel, making for a decadent sip that proves wine It’s not the only appropriate pairing for dark chocolate and berries.
While the world of whiskey is no stranger to the finished cherry barrelIt’s a fairly new experience tequila Relax in these types of barrels, and this is the first time Maestro Dobel has tried finishing with one of its fluids.
With fewer than 600 bottles available on the US market, the Maestro Dobel 50 1967 retails for $950. The unique appearance of añejo is the result of first aging in American and French oak barrels for a minimum of three years (requirement for all additional añejo). Then he takes a bath in former sherry barrels.
The end product is an elegant tequila that delivers all the aromas and flavors that a tequila connoisseur would expect from extra premium anejo – the notes of vanilla and spice, and the tastes of honey and roasted almonds. But this distinctive extra añejo catches even the most sophisticated tequila dishes by surprise with notes of chocolate, coffee, dried dates, and figs hauled out of the sherry box, says Alex Coronado, maestro tequilero and head of production at Maestro Dobelle.
“Those who enjoy tequila are left with tequila clinging to the palate, leaving a nutty-quality finish, reminiscent of walnuts and hazelnuts,” Coronado says.
Maestro Dobel 50 1967 is the first in a series of limited-edition annual iterations of the smooth Maestro Dobel 50 Extra añejo created to celebrate founder Juan Dobel’s 50th birthday and the knowledge he inherited as an eleventh-generation tequila maker. Each year, a new limited-edition and collectible Maestro Dobel 50 will be released, each an additional añejo tequila, with a different barrel finish. The series is part of the larger Maestro Dobel 50 collection and joins the Dobel 50 Cristalino launched in 2020.
Coronado’s favorite way to sip this special tequila is on a flute with dark chocolate and berries and a glass of sparkling water on the side. We strongly suggest that you do the same.
