According to the official brief, the new season opens with Ryan serving as a CIA case officer based in Rome. While there, he receives a disturbing tip: a group of Russian officials hatched a plot to restore the former Soviet Union, and they plan to detonate a nuclear weapon as part of their operation. Upon opening the trailer, we see Ryan trying to explain this scheme—a code named Project Sokol—to his colleagues at the CIA, warning them that the nuclear weapon is “on the go.”
The agency, however, is not interested. The official response: “The United States cannot come close to this.”
But once he discovers the plot, Ryan can’t let go – and things go sideways from there. I warned him not to back off, but he continued anyway.
“If you come now, a lot of people will die,” he says.
Then Ryan was wrongly accused of treason. Suddenly, he finds himself pursued not only by powerful Russians who see him as a threat to their plot, but also by his employer.
A colleague warns him in the trailer: “You’re about to cross the line, and there may be no turning back.”
Ryan is unaffected – he’s on a mission.
He answers, “I’m trying to do the right thing.”
Caught between the CIA and Russian assassins, Jack Ryan finds himself in a serious predicament at the start of Season Three. Despite all the formidable forces arrayed against him, he is convinced of what he must do: thwart Russian conspiracy and geopolitics.
“It wasn’t just a nuclear weapon,” he says. “This is about starting a world war.”
