Here’s post 1 of 2 from Bald Head Island’s long weekend to celebrate our birthday and Halloween!
40 in Bald Head
Six hours in the car with the kids was worth a visit for my birthday on Bald Head!
The boys had fallen for a break on the 27th and 28th, so we knew it was a great time to make the getaway! We didn’t realize how fun it would be to be on the island for Halloween – more on that in the second post coming later this week!
I took a little nap in the ferry
He’s our hardworking driver!
Unfortunately this was our last warm afternoon!
After that the sky was overcast and stormy days.
fishing basin
The boys headed straight to the pier to fish while I was emptying my bag with a glass of wine.
Dinner at the grill
We had reservations at Bald Head Island Club’s “luxury” restaurant, The Grille.
Live his best life with a crab dip!
I had a delicious starter salad
The shrimp and grits are amazing!
The boys were on the best behavior
Especially with the promise of ice cream sundaes!
Turtle cheese cake for adults
Loved the golden white chocolate turtle for a turtle friendly island!
fit for king
Mazen was happy to have a king bed for the whole weekend
Breakfast + lunch
We kept breakfast and lunch very simple with bread, fruit and sandwiches.
+ Hummus, red pepper, pickles, cheese, lettuce, turkey
fishing every morning
Mazen and Thomas overrun fishing all morning.
Birch did a little hunting, and we also walked to the market shops for a thrill.
Afternoon at the beach
It was warm enough to pretty much visit the beach, but it was also very windy, so we didn’t last long!
B wore his suit long enough to get wet and cold, haha.
game time
After the wind blew us by staying on the beach, we headed to the club’s playground where the boys played a game of pirate for an hour!
His last nap when he was 3 years old
They were worn out. Birch and I watched Survivor sleep on my lap. I kissed his little cheek 100 times!
Dinner at Jules’ Salty Grub Pub
Best steamer ever
Mazen is very interested in seafood these days and he wants a giant steam bowl for dinner. It was expensive, so he and Thomas split it. He was in Heaven!!
I had the trout with succotash which was also very good.
happy Birthday Dad!
My father is on the other side of the world and today is his birthday!! He’s in Nepal hiking (for the second time!) with a group of guys from Hillsborough.
Here he is at Larke Pass!
