Once your entire head is curled, let it cool for a few minutes. “Letting the curls cool in the curly setting allows the hair to form,” says Spino. After this cooling period, use a bit of hairspray for an extra layer of hold.
If you’re looking for a looser look, you’ll probably want to get rid of your curls a bit. Instead of brushing, Spino recommends your numbers (think of them as built-in tools). “You can now move your fingers to separate each curl,” she says. Separate only what you need and remember that the curls will fall out a bit as the hours go by.
After you run your fingers through your strands, it will likely separate enough to reveal a new, untouched area with your final spray, so you’ll want to spray it again.
