Members high west We’ll be pleased to know that Midwinter’s Night Drum Code #10 (a Shakespearean gesture) will be out on a limited basis on October 2. This seasonal bottle is shaping up to be just as delicious as the beloved “Act 9” from last year.
“It goes without saying that A Midwinter Night’s Dram is our most anticipated launch of each year,” says Brendan Coyle, Head Distiller at High West. “We’ve really started noticing its takeoff in the last five or six years, and the line that’s forming now at the bright distillery and early on release day speaks for itself. We know consumers really love that expression as much as we do.”
What is this
A Midwinter Night’s Dram is the famous Rendezvous Rye on the High West finished in sapphire and yellow wine barrels.
“Rendezvous Rye itself has a much spicier and firmer flavor profile, so the blending finish in sapphire-yellow port casks results in a very well-balanced end product with exquisite dried fruit complexity,” Coyle adds.
Each year the “verb” is a slightly more subtle expression thanks to the flavors the whiskey captures from the barrels, sourced from different wineries, each imparting unique characteristics.
“With this year’s release, Law 10, you’ll be savoring notes of dark rye bread, black currant jam, candied ginger, bergamot, and smoked apple wood,” Coyle says. “Mixing, discovery, and innovation are part of High West’s DNA, and we are constantly looking for unique expressions to bring consumers.”
A Midwinter Night’s Dram Act 10 also features scents of ripe cranberries, mashed peaches, blood orange peel, Saigon cinnamon, heavily toasted Oloroso Sherry barrels, and leather-covered books, according to tasting notes. Flavors include waves of black currant jam, sour cherry tart, rose and pistachio Pavlova, dark rye bread, candied ginger, blue Stilton cheese, and smoked apple wood, along with a final note of spice, dried fruit, and English cream.
