We had a lovely stay at The Georges in Lexington, Virginia last week. Here’s why you should add this boutique hotel to your Virginia itinerary!
George
George It is a boutique inn in Lexington, Virginia, about an hour’s drive from Charlottesville. It’s the perfect place for a romantic night away!
The team invited us for a one night stay in exchange for sharing it with all of you. We had a great time – the hospitality was exceptional.
Owned by Native Virginians, The Georges opened in 2016 and is dotted among the many different historic buildings on Main Street in Lexington.
There are 33 rooms and suites scattered among the historic buildings each uniquely designed with modern amenities to reflect the duality of destination.
There are two restaurants Haywood’s Piano Bar and Grill, the inn’s signature restaurant across the street, TAPS, a lobby and lounge bar serving small plates and drinks. TAPS is where breakfast is also served.
Why you should visit Lexington, Virginia
Located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Lexington is known for its history and the two colleges there: Washington and Lee and Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
The drive down was easy and beautiful in the fall with mountain views in all directions.
We learned from our host at Haywoods that the reason you can see the foundation in so many buildings is that years ago when horses were hauling goods into the street from the river you decided to lower the slope and dig the street.
So the first floors of many buildings were underground.
livery
We stayed in the newest building in the Georges collection: The Livery.
Yes, it used to be a real livery!
The building has just been renovated and opened a few weeks ago. Loved all the fall decor and the cool wallpaper.
Our room at The Georges
The rooms are luxurious, each with a different design and wallpaper.
The rooms feature dimmable lights, a sound machine (all hotels need these!) and a very comfortable bed.
OMG bathroom!
The bathroom was a show stopper! It had a warm towel, heated floors, a bathtub, lighted mirrors, a walk-in shower, a water closet, and even a tiled shower ceiling.
As a general contractor, Thomas was impressed. We were taking notes on our new master bathroom!
Main Street Lexington
We changed for dinner and headed outside for a short walk before dinner.
New dress from short story
Drinks at TAPS
Before dinner we had some cocktails at TAPS.
I got Run The Block (Mezcal, Reposado Tequila, Honey, Lime, Muddled Jalapeño, Tajin Rim) and Thomas had Kappa Hill (Tequila, Lime, Jalapeño, Cilantro, Mango, Ginger Beer Float.)
Dinner at Haywood’s Piano Bar and Grill
At 6:30 we crossed the street for dinner at Haywood’s Piano Bar and Grill.
We were greeted by General Manager John Gomez and enjoyed a delicious menu beforehand. We loved hearing about the history of Lexington during dinner.
Courses
We started with a course of salad or soup. I had broccoli soup with crab meat and I had Thomas Caesar.
Mushroom risotto

One usually chooses between lobster mac and cheese and risotto, but the chef was so excited for us to savor everything he made it all!!

Appetizer
We tried salmon in a bourbon-rich glaze

And filet mignon! We were fully stuffed and brought our leftovers home after tasting a few bites.

Always room for dessert

soaked
I rolled myself home and couldn’t resist taking a bubble bath in the submerged bathtub!

Coffee gets an A+
The lobby coffee was very good – I had to drink a second cup!
breakfast
Breakfast is included in your stay, and you can select options and a time period the night before.

We had the breakfast entrees of pumpkin bread and mini smoothies!

Eggs, bacon, fruit, and a toasted English muffin.

picnic for college
After breakfast, we took a walk around the W&L and VMI campuses.
I felt like I was back in college walking among all the students 🙂
We look like college students without backpacks, right? Erase a crease or two…
Thanks George for having us. We can’t wait to go back to Lexington!
If you want to plan a stay, you can view the rooms and book a visit over here.
