As summer slowly comes to a close (yes, it lasts until the 21st, and you can’t convince me otherwise), I’ve been feeling a little nostalgic. I was lucky enough to have grown up on the beach, so my summer childhood memories consist of days spent jumping between sea and sand, cycling on the boardwalk with friends, sipping thick milkshakes at the end of the pier.
That day, I was craving to order my old-fashioned milkshake: chocolate peanut butter. But my freezer lacked an ice cream section, so I decided to improvise and make something like creamy and delicious – but ideally without the specialty. High blood sugar.
So, I throw ice, frozen bananas, raw cocoa powder, some dark chocolate, peanut butter, chia seeds, cinnamon, and homemade nut milk into my blender. Then, I decided to add another element to really raise the bar for the health service: + Organic veggies from mindbodygreen.
The mixture itself is already a great balance of fiber and protein — not to mention that cocoa powder offers some anti-inflammatory benefits. Adding greens powder to the mix really elevates the mix (without compromising the flavor). Sure, the mix has a bunch of organic produce (leafy greens! Sea vegetables! Berries!) — but in this particular recipe, I was particularly excited about how Organic vegetables + It can also help maintain blood sugar levels. * This is because it not only provides a good source of fibre, but also contains cinnamon Bark extract, which helps slow digestion, and limits the amount of glucose that enters the bloodstream. *
