Just two hours north of the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles lies the serene and gorgeous landscape of San Luis Obispo, California. There you’ll find golden, rolling hills dotted with oak trees and meticulously groomed vineyards dotted across the landscape. This stretch of the Golden State is one of the most amazing places to visit in the entire country.
With roots deep in Old California, you’ll feel like stepping back in time as you travel through the region. When you get the sprawl and everyday demands of the digital world at your best, San Luis Obispo, better known as SLO, is the perfect place to breathe fresh air and stretch your legs. Located right off US-101, this hidden gem of the city is easy to get to, but feels miles off the beaten track. And while there are many options for accommodation, I recently spent a few days at Sero HotelAnd it became my new favorite place for the weekend.
This hotel is one of the coolest places I’ve stayed in some time. It’s in the heart of the downtown area, so it’s a short walk from anything you might need.
For access to bars, restaurants, shopping, groceries, and everything in between, you can’t beat Cerro’s location. The casual elegance feels like something out of a romantic movie, yet the modern take on classic loft-style architecture and décor is a neat, thoughtfully designed joint.

Opening its doors in 2020, the hotel features 65 rooms, eight residences, a full-service spa, a rooftop pool, great on-site dining, and even a delightful edible garden that guests can wander through to pick their own fruits and vegetables. My kids love picking strawberries themselves and eating them straight off the vine.
Amazingly spacious guest rooms Featuring vaulted ceilings, they are designed with a rustic feel reminiscent of mid-century industrial spaces. They are decorated with touches of the original building such as exposed brick, polished concrete floors, and impressive wooden beams that arch across the ceiling. The interior is charming, and the in-room amenities are the perfect blend of luxury and practicality – during my stay, I particularly appreciated the self-serve gourmet coffee.

Cerro also offers free bike rentals and a full fitness room, but the rooftop highlight might be: The Rooftop swimming pool Guests are given 360-degree views of the stunning Cerro San Luis (how the hotel got its name). It’s like something off a postcard.
As for on-site dining, the hotel boasts one of the city’s best local restaurants: Brasserie SLO. Located right on the property, the hotel refers to Brasserie SLO’s menu as “French Coastal Dining” and I’d say they did. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and food menu Stacked. You can start your day with locally roasted coffee (or a delicious craft bloody mary, if that’s more your style), croque monsieur, or lemon poppy seed waffles. For lunch, dive into the prime rib sandwich or the Nashville hot chicken sandwich.

But if you ask me, dinner is the best meal of the day at Brasserie SLO. Start with fresh West Coast oysters or braised pork empanadas with citrus and chili. For the main course, you have all kinds of options: radishes and crusted salmon, or drunken octopus and clams, or eat delicious lamb two ways (for example, grilled lamb chops with fire-roasted lamb sausage).
While SLO has plenty of excellent dining options, you really don’t need to leave the hotel to indulge in local Central California cuisine. The restaurant obtains many of its ingredients from nearby farms and even obtains produce directly from the hotel’s edible garden. It’s truly farm-to-table.

Fore for me? The CBD massage. This full-body treatment takes you to the next level of relaxation with our Organic CBD Massage Oil Moon Mother Cannabis Company. I highly recommend it.

If you are planning a trip to the California coast for some adventure, good food, drink and relaxation, do it Sero Hotel your home base. With much of the country preparing for cooler weather, it’s time to visit: Even the fall and winter months can feel like summer in California.
