TThe White House is asking companies to help employees get updated coronavirus vaccines by hosting clinics on site and will start a new program that will provide some Americans with free home delivery of COVID-19 treatments ahead of an expected rise in the virus this fall.
President Joe Biden will announce the effort Tuesday at the White House, where he is scheduled to receive the latest COVID shot targeting Omicron BA.4 / BA.5 Sub-variables. He will be joined by executives from major drugstores including CVS Health Corp. and Rite Aid Corp. and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc.
Only about 20 million Americans have received the latest version of the vaccine, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Hospitalizations and deaths from the Corona virus have begun to rise in some European countries and regions of the United States, as new versions of the virus are better able to evade immunity from vaccines or previous infections to spread more widely.
The White House will issue new guidance requiring employers to host flu and coronavirus vaccine clinics on site, send emails to workers urging them to get vaccinated, and offer paid time off for workers experiencing side effects.
The White House is also asking companies to do so improve air quality On their premises, and ask staff to get tested regularly — and to get treated if they are infected.
As part of this push, Walgreens is expected to begin a program in the coming weeks that will allow Americans who live in areas designated as “socially vulnerable” by the government to fill Pfizer Inc.’s prescriptions.
