In 2009, History Channel premiered ancient aliens. Over 200 episodes later, show He still attracts nods of appreciation from fans and the wrath of critics who watch him as a flag clown. Regardless, November brings 10 cities ancient aliens Live tour. As the irrepressible lead expert and co-executive producer, Giorgio A. Tsoukalos appeared as the face (and certainly hair) of the show.
what made ancient aliens much successful?
The show asks questions. Some seem to ignore that the show’s narrative rarely ends in a period, but rather ends in question marks. Giant question marks indeed. To explore and find out how it all began and where we are heading is the ultimate quest.
Can you summarize the “old astronaut theory” that motivated the show?
The ancient astronaut theory explores the question of whether extraterrestrial flesh and blood visited Earth in the distant past. These visitors left clues in the form of ancient texts and physical visualizations. Our ancestors refer to them as “gods”. It goes without saying that the “gods” as we think of them today have never existed, they are not and never will be. Archeology determines that most ancient structures were built to honor these deities. Then they slap each other’s backs saying, “Solve the mystery! It’s all done for worship!” They go home for a beer, and close the case. I say, not so fast.
When did you start believing in extraterrestrial life?
These topics were often conversations around the dinner table in the home I grew up in. As an early teen, I discovered the work of Eric von Danken (author of Chariots of the gods?) And that was for me and I became a heat-seeking rocket for anything extraterrestrial. It also helped me that I grew up in Switzerland where he was/was Eric and was able to meet and work with him closely since I was 16.
