We the people own about 800 million acres of public land, including ForestsAnd the National parksAnd the Wildlife RefugesConservation areas, sea beaches – all full of exploration opportunities. That is about two acres for every person living in our country. It’s amazing. It is a treasure. So we challenged ourselves to find 100 amazing adventures in the public lands to make the most of the excursions and activities within these protected places.
From hiking through Utah’s 3,500-acre Goblin Valley State Park to oyster prospecting in South Carolina’s oyster lands to floating through the Ozarks on the Eleven Point River, these adventures Shedding light on the vastness and diversity of this land. And the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
In December 2017, a presidential executive order was signed, to shrink Bears Ears National Monument, in southeastern Utah, by about 85 percent. There are more proposals on the table, at the state and federal levels, to shrink spaces and restrict access to our land and water.
