1. Hatfield McCoy Trails, West Virginia
Hundreds of miles of former mining and logging routes have been redirected to a knight’s paradise that stretches across forested mountain terrain over several counties. Whether you crave moderate, scenic trails or a black diamond climb, there are plenty of options. Best of all, the whole area is going crazy off-road, with tiny homes and campgrounds near every road. Even small “conductive” towns allow noisy UTVs to roam their streets to refuel or stop for a burger.
2. Sand Hollow State Park, Utah
Southern Utah’s distinctive red rocks and sand dunes provide a stunning backdrop to this popular off-road destination that surrounds a reservoir of blue water. It is also an annual home, suitable for family Hero’s Trail Off-road enthusiasts gather (October 3-8), as Can-Am, the international off-road organization, sets up shop to showcase its latest gear and launch some professional racers onto the tracks.
