Do you know that almost One in four people from the LGBTQ+ community (23 per cent) have witnessed discriminatory or hurtful remarks from healthcare staff?
In this episode, Rory spoke to LGBTQ+ athlete and advocate, Amazin Leithy and Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at Stonybrook University, Dr. Jessica Schleider.
Jessica revealed that the global average of psychotherapy sessions that a person will attend is only one. This is due to various issues such as financial challenges and availability. This problem encouraged her to find new interventions that would allow practitioners to help their clients in one session.
We also talked about LGBTQ+ being underrepresented in research. Amazon explained how acting can improve a person’s mental health and how diversity is integral to creating treatments that benefit everyone.
