Some of these materials are specialist developments of the G-1000 brand that is highly durable, breathable, windproof, UV protected, and weatherproof.
G-1000 Heavy It has a hardness of G-1000, but on steroids. It comes encased in Greenland wax on both sides and sets a new standard for durability. Fjällräven uses it for knee strengthening and backpacking.
While it is less airy than the original, when durability is paramount, Fjällräven uses it G-1000 Heavy Duty Eco S. A finely woven version of the G-1000, it uses ripstop yarns to make the fabric supple and flexible. It is still waxed and UV resistant as the original, and keeps out wind and rain.
G-1000 Silent The durability is reduced a bit, but it is polished to make the fabric soft and smooth. The G-1000 Silent is ideal for hunters and others who need to move silently through the woods.

Morning nostalgia
In the Fjällräven line, the G-1000 and Greenland Wax go hand in hand. And while it may seem odd that the Fjällräven uses wind and water-resistant wax, rather than a fancy membrane, anyone who wears it will be assured that the G-1000 is a stylish and effective weatherproof solution. Since Fjällräven first introduced Greenland wax, the combination of beeswax and paraffin keeps the outdoors comfortably dry and warm.
These days, most G-1000 products come pre-treated with a fluorocarbon-free wax, but with washing and wear, you’ll need to fix it. Fjällräven sells Swedish-made sustainable Greenland wax panels. As your jacket or pants break and mold to your body, you can rub and iron the wax for more weather resistance or wash it out to make your ensemble more breathable, customized, and adjusted to your use and preferences.
Check out the Fjällräven website Step by step instructions, or visit the Fjällräven store. Most have a tailor’s shop and wax station to help you get the most out of your gear.
