There’s a lot to love about the newly updated 2023 Genesis G90 E-Supercharger AWD. It is the perfect luxury sedan to drive in style. Of course, there are bells and whistles galore. But perhaps the sweetest extra option in the brand’s flagship sedan is the lack of any. With most luxury models, the options and packages seem endless and increasingly expensive. But the Korean manufacturer has adopted a different philosophy: if you buy their best, everything comes as standard.
power and performance
Under the hood of this road glider sits a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine boosted by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, the brand calls the “electronic supercharger,” which produces 409 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. Not very shabby. Aided by an eight-speed automatic transmission, the 2023 Genesis G90 E-Supercharger AWD will sprint from 0-60 mph in a mark or two in under five seconds—again…not too shabby.
While the G90 is fairly quick, nothing about it feels sporty, nor should it be. that’s not the point. Strength is purposeful and part of the orchestrated luxury experience.
While driving on some of the rainy roads in and around Miami, the G90 does just about everything you ask for with fluidity and agility. It’s controlled from corners, but not tightly, and while the steering looks a bit lackluster, it’s subtle. Plus, thanks to the addition of rear-wheel steering and a chassis that’s 12 percent stiffer than the previous version, the 208-inch crossbar feels more like scissors than a giant tanker.
The eight-speed automatic’s shifts are rather nice, and the power-saving function on start and stop is one of the smoothest we’ve seen. To keep the G90 cruising smoothly, front cameras assess the road surface for bumps and the multi-chamber air suspension adjusts for bumps, smoothing out all the cavernous pot holes.
